Four Lions on Academic All-District VII Teams
Three from tennis team earn first-team laurels

Three members of the Missouri Southern women’s tennis team, including a mother-daughter combination, were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VII Women’s At-Large team announced on Thursday.

Senior Amy Stredney (Abilene, Kan.), along with senior Kim McMunn (Parsons, Kan.) and junior Lacey McMunn (Parsons, Kan.), were three honorees on the 10-member first-team. As a result of being named to the first team, the three MSSU tennis players will advance to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

MSSU junior golfer Danny Sinksen (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was named to the second-team on the men’s at-large squad.

Stredney, a senior marketing major with a 3.97 GPA, posted a 16-10 record in No. 3 doubles, with freshman partner Kristen Meschede, this year for the Lions. She was also 10-8 at No. 6 singles. Stredney earned honorable mention All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association honors at No. 3 doubles. Stredney finished her MSSU career with a 16-20 singles record and a 23-23 ledger in doubles play.

Kim McMunn, the mother of Lacey McMunn, held a 3.94 GPA after the fall 2003 semester and was a general studies major. This season, she went 15-3 at No. 4 singles and 21-9 in No. 2 doubles with partner Barb Gombosi, a freshman. Kim McMunn was a first-team All-MIAA choice this year and finished her career with a 22-11 career singles mark.

Lacey McMunn maintains a perfect 4.00 GPA as an elementary education major and was a repeat selection on the Academic All-District team. In 2004, she posted a 7-11 record in singles play and went 16-11 in No. 1 doubles with senior partner Sheryl Posch. The McMunn-Posch doubles contingent was ranked No. 4 in the North Central Region.

The MSSU women’s tennis team finished with a 12-11 record on 2003-04 and advanced to the NCAA Division II North Central Regional Tournament.

Sinksen, a junior on the Southern golf team, is a management major with a 3.833 grade-point average. In 2003-04, he averaged 77.0 strokes per round for the Lions, which finished as runner-up in the MIAA and third in the Central Regional. Sinksen was an All-MIAA choice for the second time in three years at MSSU.
