Five Missouri Southern student-athletes receive MIAA academic honor

Five student-athletes from Missouri Southern State College, including four from the Lions golf team, have been named to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, the conference announced.

From the MSSC golf team, senior Mickey Carpenter (Neodesha, Kan.), junior John Dugger (Joplin, Mo.) and sophomores Andrew Koehler (Superior, Wis.) and Danny Sinksen (Sioux Falls, S.D.) were listed on the honor roll.

Sophomore Lacey McMunn (Parsons, Kan.) was the lone representative on the list from the Missouri Southern women's tennis team.

Carpenter, an All-MIAA selection, averaged 77.68 this year and had three top-five finishes in the spring, including a second-place tie at the MIAA Tournament. He holds a 3.0 GPA as a business management student.

Dugger carries a 3.263 GPA in business. This year, he finished tied for 21st at the Missouri Southern Crossroads Invitational and averaged 81.0 strokes.

Koehler posted a 79.21 average in 2002-03, including a 77.2 mark in the fall portion of the season. He placed ninth at the MIAA Tournament this spring and was second at Winona State (Minn.). Koehler has a 3.089 GPA as a biology major.

Sinksen had three top-10 finishes during the 2002-03 season and averaged 78.36. His best finish was a fifth-place showing at the Central Regional last week when he tied for fifth place with a 225. A business management major, he has a 3.792 GPA.

McMunn posted a 12-9 record as Missouri Southern's No. 2 singles player this year, earning first-team All-MIAA laurels. She was also an honorable mention all-conference pick at No. 1 doubles, teaming with junior Sheryl Posch to post a 15-9 ledger. In the classroom, McMunn is a 4.0 student in elementary education.

To be eligible for the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better at the qualifying institution; have at least two terms of attendance at the member school, excluding summer session; and be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility. Student-athletes inactive due to redshirt or hardship qualification are not eligible.
