FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Overland Park, Kan. -- With expectations already high for Missouri Southern entering the 2007 season, the Lions will now begin the new campaign tied for 19th with Saint Leo University (Fla.) in the preseason National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll that was announced on Tuesday (Aug. 14). Southern is one of two MIAA squads to make the list, with defending conference champ Washburn earning the 13th spot. Defending national champion Metro State (Colo.) secured the top spot in the rankings and was joined in the top five by Grand Valley State, West Chester (Pa.), Tampa (Fla.) and UC San Diego. MSSU head coach Trevor Wachsman, in his fifth-year at Southern, led the Lions to an 11-4-5 overall record last season and a second-place MIAA finish with a 9-2-3 conference record. The Lions also ended the season ranked for the first time in school history, finishing as the No. 22-ranked squad in the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. The Lions, coming off their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance last season, will begin the season by hosting Delta State (Miss.) on Aug. 24 at Hal Bodon Field and will begin MIAA action at Southwest Baptist on Aug. 31.
