Lions jump into NSCAA National Poll at #24

Joplin, MO -- The Missouri Southern Lions, riding an eight-match unbeaten streak, have vaulted into the National Soccer Coaches Association of America national rankings as the No. 24-ranked squad this week.

The Lions are 8-3-4 overall this season and are coming off a scoreless draw against Central Missouri (Oct. 13) and a critical, 1-0 victory over the then No. 15-ranked Truman Bulldogs last Sunday (Oct. 15).

Southern's win over the Bulldogs came on a game-winning goal from Jessica Harthcock (Boerne, Texas) with just 23 seconds remaining in regulation.

While achieving a national ranking is obviously a tremendous compliment for Southern, head coach Trevor Wachsman realizes there is still a lot of soccer left to play.

"It is nice to see Missouri Southern represented on this list, but we were fortunate to have been here before and realize this is not a goal for us," Wachsman said.  "We know that there are still four matches left to be played in the regular season and that our main goals are still ahead of us."

The Lions will attempt to tie a school record and extend their unbeaten streak to nine matches by hosting Missouri Western Saturday afternoon (Oct. 21) at 2 p.m.
