FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Sophomore Nikki Llewellyn has been selected to the first team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-Central Region squad for the second consecutive season, while senior Jessica Buhman has earned second team All-Region honors. Llewellyn, a native of O'Fallon, Mo., led the Lions in both goals (6) and assists (5) this year. She also recorded a goal-scoring streak that covered five matches this year that was a big part in Southern running off a school-record 11 match unbeaten streak, as the Lions went 4-0-1 over that span. Llewellyn, last year's MIAA freshman of the year, already ranks third all-time at MSSU with 20 career goals despite just finishing up her sophomore season. Buhman, a third-team all-region performer last year, started every match but two during her four-year career at MSSU. She finished this season with two goals and one assist, while playing stellar defense on a Lions unit that recorded nine shutouts overall this season and held the opposition scoreless for nearly 509 minutes that included five consecutive shutouts. The Lions, under fourth-year head coach Trevor Wachsman, tied the school record for wins this season by finishing 11-4-5 overall and achieved their highest-ever conference finish by winding up all alone in second-place in the MIAA with a 9-2-3 conference record. Southern also made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Postseason Tournament and ended the season ranked No. 22 in the final NSCAA poll, the first time in school history the Lions have finished the year with a national ranking.
