FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Junior Ashley Turner (Columbia, Mo.) and sophomore Nikki Llewellyn (O'Fallon, Mo.) have been selected to the 2006 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Turner, earning this honor for the second straight year, maintains a perfect 4.0 grade-point-average with a major in business. Turner started all 19 matches this season and recorded one assist. Turner's defensive effort was a big factor in the Lions notching nine shutouts on the season. Llewellyn majors in accounting and has a 3.9 GPA. Llewellyn led the Lions season with six goals and five assists, including two game-winners. Llewellyn had a goal-scoring streak of five matches earlier in the season and was a big reason why the Lions enjoyed a school-record 11 match unbeaten streak. The Lions, under fourth-year head coach Trevor Wachsman, tied a school record for victories this season by going 11-4-4 overall. Southern also achieved its highest-ever MIAA finish by finishing all alone in second place with a 9-2-3 conference mark. The No. 21-ranked Lions are gearing up for their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament against MIAA foe and No. 10-ranked Washburn this Friday (Nov. 3) at 11:30 a.m. in Omaha, Neb.
