Three Lions earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Recognition

Nikki Llewellyn, Ashley Turner and Kelsey Thomas have been named to the 2007 CoSIDA Academic All-District team, as announced today.

Llewellyn and Turner were each first-team selections, while Thomas earned a second-team nod.  Llewellyn and Turner will now go on the national ballot for Academic All-American.

Llewellyn, a junior midfielder from O'Fallon, Mo., has a 3.73 grade-point-average in marketing.  This is her second straight CoSIDA Academic All-District mention.  Llewellyn is already the Lions' all-time leader in points (86) and goals scored (38).   She led the Lions this year with 18 goals and was tied for second on the team with three assists.

Turner, a senior defender out of Columbia, Mo., is a biology major with a 3.85 GPA.  This also represents her second consecutive Academic All-District selection.  Turner provided solid defense and scored two goals and handed out two assists this season. She concluded her four-year career at MSSU by starting every match since arriving on campus in 2004.

Thomas, a junior defender from Manhattan, Kan., maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA in Health/Promotion Wellness.  She provided a solid defensive presence this season and scored her first career goal on a penalty kick earlier this year.  Even though she has one year of eligibility remaining, she will graduate early and has wrapped up her career at MSSU.

The Lions tied the school record for wins by notching 11 victories for the third straight season.  MSSU finished 11-5-3 overall and 7-5-2 in the MIAA.
