FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Missouri Southern Lions women's soccer head coach Trevor Wachsman has announced the additions of two freshmen newcomers to the 2007 squad in Sarah Evers and Laura Rodolf. Evers, a 5-foot-6 native of Fenton, Mo., is a four-year starter at Rockwood Summit high school Falcons, the same school as current Lions senior Amy Davis. Evers earned first-team all-conference honors in 2006 and was a second-team all-conference pick in 2005. Evers also helped the Falcons to the conference championship in 2006. In addition to her high school achievements, Evers set the single-season record for goals scored by scoring 30 times for Woodchips soccer club team in 2005. Evers' success was not limited to the soccer field, as she earned Volleyball team MVP honors in 2006. Rodolf started four seasons for the Putnam City North Panthers in Oklahoma City, Okla. The 5-foot-10 native of Oklahoma City has been a two-time all-conference selection and was an all-district pick in 2006 and an honorable mention all-district selection in 2005. Rodolf also earned honorable mention all-city honors and was a Bethany all-tribune team pick in 2006. Rodolf's individual success also translated to the team's good fortunes, as she helped lead the Panthers to three consecutive conference titles from 2004-06, two district championships, a state semifinal appearance in 2004 and two straight trips to the state quarterfinals in 2005-06. She also helped her club team to a third place finish in the State Cup competition in 2005. "We are excited to add Laura and Sarah to our program, said Lions head coach Trevor Wachsman. We lost a couple of talented players to graduation this year, and these players are being brought in to complement our 16 current players and help fulfill some of our needs. Laura is a strong defender and Sarah is a very aggressive attacking player, but both players are capable of playing all over the field. Each year and everyday we try to improve and I believe these players can help us do that." The Lions also may not be done tweaking their squad for the upcoming 2007 season just yet, as Wachsman expects to announce a couple more signings later this spring. Evers and Rodolf join a unit that advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in the program's history and tied a school record for victories by going 11-4-5 overall. The Lions also achieved their highest-ever finish in the MIAA, finishing all alone in second place with a 9-2-3 conference record.
