Seven from women’s soccer squad earn academic honor
MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll announced

Seven members of the Missouri Southern women’s soccer team, including six seniors, were named to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.

Seniors Stephanie Doerr (Tulsa, Okla.), Jennifer Griest (Nixa, Mo.), Sandy Hicks (Blue Springs, Mo.), Melissa Husby (Sioux Falls, S..D.), Jessie Noid (Marshalltown, Iowa) and Amber Phipps (Lenexa, Kan.), along with junior Sarah Sneed (Topeka, Kan.) were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll on Nov. 21.

To be eligible for the MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better at the qualifying institution; have at least two terms of attendance at the member school, excluding summer session; and be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility. Student-athletes inactive due to redshirt or hardship qualification are not eligible.

Doerr, a marketing major with a 3.323 GPA, finished her career as a four-time All-MIAA selection, a she won honorable mention honors as a defender this year. Also a three-time MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll performer, she finished her Lion career with three goals and nine assists in 66 career matches.

A biology major with a 3.085 average, Griest played in 14 games with Missouri Southern, primarily as a midfielder, but did log one start as a goalkeeper. She had two shots on the season, and earned a tie in her lone start in goal. Griest made nine saves and posted a 1.76 goals against-average.

Hicks also collected MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll honors for the third time in her career. She saw action in 58 games over her career, logging two assists. In the classroom, Hicks maintains a 3.435 GPA as a political science major.

Husby, a communications major with a 3.479 average, earned a spot on the MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll for the third time in her career. In 2003, she finished with one goal in 19 matches (all starts) and played in 66 matches over her MSSU career.

Noid completes her playing days with the Lions as the team’s career record holder with 74 matches played. The only Lion to start all 20 games this season, she completes her career with three goals, five assists and 55 shots. She’s a three-time MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll recipient and a four-time all-conference pick, including second-team honors this past season. In the classroom, Noid is a 3.323 student in physical education.

Phipps carries a 3.69 GPA in Health Promotion & Wellness and collects her third consecutive MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll award. She played in 45 matches over her MSSU career, logging four goals and two assists.

Sneed is a biology (pre-medicine) major with a 3.576 average and is a two-time MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll selection. She has played in 50 career matches as a Lion, logging five goals, six assists and 53 shots.

Missouri Southern finished the 2003 season, the first under head coach Trevor Wachsman, with a 3-13-4 record, including 2-8-4 in the MIAA to tie for sixth in the conference.
