Lions suffer 1-0 setback at Northwest Missouri

Maryville, Mo. -- For the second straight match, the Missouri Southern Lions suffered a tough 1-0 setback, this time at the hands of the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats Saturday afternoon (Oct. 31) in Maryville, Mo.

The only goal of the match was scored by the Bearcats' Andrea Tritz, who tallied an unassisted goal just two minutes before halftime at the 43:19 mark.

The Lions were out-shot 14-6 overall and 9-4 on-goal. Stephanie Heines and Megan Stueve each led the Lions with two shots. Tritz led everybody with five shot-attempts.

One match after recording a career-high 12 saves, Randi Russell was again superb in the net for the Lions (4-14, 2-12 MIAA). Russell made eight stops to keep the Lions within striking distance throughout the contest. Russell has now made 20 saves against only two goals allowed over the past two matches.

Kira Lazenby made four saves for the Bearcats (11-6-1, 7-6-1 MIAA).

The Lions will wrap up the 2009 home campaign by celebrating Senior Night on Thursday evening (Nov. 5) at 6 p.m. against Washburn.
