Lions drop season
opener at St. Edward's, 3-0

Austin, Texas. -- The St. Edward's Hilltoppers struck for two goals
just five minutes apart in the first half to take control of a 3-0
season-opening victory over the Missouri Southern Lions Friday afternoon
(Aug. 28) in Austin, Texas.
Lexi Iverson got the Hilltoppers (1-0) on the board in the 24th minute
from 20 yards out on an assist from Bethany Bennett.
Emily Arnold quickly gave the Hilltoppers a two-goal advantage by
kicking it in from 30 yards away at the 29:36 mark of the first half.
Stacey Copeland then boosted the lead to 3-0 on a helper from Jordan
Ynostrosa by finding the corner of the net from 18 yards out in the 59th
minute of the match.
Freshman Alicia Vonderheid recorded the Lions' only shot of the match,
which was on-goal.
Goalkeeper Randi Russell made four saves for Southern.
The Lions will continue action in Austin, Texas with a matchup against
Incarnate Word on Sunday (Aug. 30) at noon. |
