but fall 4-3 in double-overtime at SBU
Box Score
Bolivar, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern Lions rallied from two goals
down late in the second half to tie the score and send the match to
overtime, but SBU scored in the first minute of the second overtime for
a 4-3 victory Saturday afternoon (Sept. 12) in Bolivar, Mo.
The game-winner came at the 101:45 mark when Vanessa Roher hooked in a
shot from the left corner of the box off an assist from her sister
Shannon.
It was Shannon Roher who put the Bearcats (4-0-1, 2-0 MIAA) on top early
with a score from Jayme Ross in the ninth minute of action.
The Bearcats would take a 2-0 lead into the half when Jen Tenholder put
in a direct kick at the 39:18 mark of the first half.
It didn't take long for the Lions (2-4, 0-2 MIAA) to jump right back
into the match as Alicia Vonderheid scored from 12 feet away just one
minute into the second half that pulled the Lions to within 2-1.
After Caitlin Tull scored off a corner kick feed from Heidi Lewis that
put SBU up 3-1 in the 53rd minute, the Lions began their charge to pull
even with goals just six minutes apart in the 63rd and 69th minute.
First, Shannon Kuhn found the net on a corner kick assist from Jentri
White at the 63:07 mark that brought the Lions to within one goal.
White then got into the scoring act and tied the match on a breakaway
goal at the 69:36 point of the second half.
SBU held a 21-10 advantage in shots overall and a 10-6 edge in
shots-on-goal.
Randi Russell made four saves for the Lions, while Megan Link stopped
three shots for SBU.
The Lions will now return home to face Northwest Missouri State on
Thursday night (Sept. 17) at 7 p.m. at Hal Bodon Field.
