FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern Lions received scores from three different sources in a 3-0 win over the St. Mary's (Texas) Rattlers Monday afternoon (Sept. 7) at Hal Bodon Field. The first score came from Candis Clark, whose first career goal came from inside the box off a corner kick from Jentri White in the 26th minute of action. Michelle Dimza then scored her second goal in as many matches off an assist from Alicia Vonderheid with just 14 seconds remaining in the opening half that put the Lions (2-2) up 2-0. Cortney Sanders put the finishing touches on the victory for the Lions by scoring her first-career goal on a feed from Stephanie Heines at the 61:15 mark. Lions' goalkeeper Randi Russell continued her stellar play in the net by extending her scoreless streak to over 182 minutes with five saves in the shutout victory. Roxana Carrasco recorded 11 saves for the Rattlers (0-4-1). The Lions enjoyed a whopping 22-8 advantage in shot-attempts, along with a 14-5 edge in shots-on-goal. Dimza led the Lions with seven shots, with four on-goal. Heines had five shots and three on-goal. The Lions will now begin MIAA conference action with a match at Central Missouri on Sept. 10. The match is set for 7 p.m. in Warrensburg, Mo. |
