FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE St. Joseph, Mo. -- Stephanie Heines scored off an assist from Audrey Copenhaver to lead the Missouri Southern Lions to their first MIAA win of the season, 1-0 over the Missouri Western Griffons Saturday night (Sept. 27) in St. Joseph, Mo. Heines' goal came in the 77th minute as the Lions (3-6, 1-5 MIAA) snapped a scoreless tie. The Lions had a huge 22-10 edge in shot-attempts overall and a 10-5 advantage in shots-on-goal. Nikki Llewellyn led the Lions with seven shots and three on-goal. Michelle Polk had a team-best four shots for the Griffons (1-7-1, 0-5-1 MIAA). Randi Russell stopped five shots for Southern in her first career shutout, while Western keeper Jenna Weis recorded 11 saves. The Lions will next play on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 2) for a 4 p.m. matchup at Emporia State.
