FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joplin, Mo.. -- Theresa Sanches scored the tie-breaking goal on a penalty kick in the 57th minute to propel the Texas Woman's Pioneers to a 2-1 win over the Missouri Southern Lions Sunday afternoon (Sept. 7) at Fred Hughes Stadium. The score came just seven minutes after the Lions (2-1) evened the match on a Sarah Evers goal from 10 yards out. TWU broke on top in the first half on a score from Chasity Hayter 27 minutes into the match. The Lions out-shot the Pioneers 15-9 overall and 8-6 on-goal. Evers led the Lions with four shots, while Hayter also had four attempts for the Pioneers (3-1). Lisa Senkle stopped seven shots for the Lions and Aly Vincent-Evans recorded seven saves for TWU. Next up for the Lions is their MIAA opener on Thursday night (Sept. 11) when they host Central Missouri at 7 p.m.
