FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joplin, Mo. -- Senior Nikki Llewellyn concluded her playing career at Missouri Southern in style by scoring her team-leading 11th goal to give the Missouri Southern Lions a 2-1 double-overtime victory over the Emporia State Hornets on Senior Day Sunday afternoon (Nov. 9) at Hal Bodon Field. The game-winner is Llewellyn's fifth this season and 17th of her career. Brianna McKenzie got the Lions (6-12-1, 4-11-1 MIAA) going early by putting in a header from the middle of the box just two minutes into the match. The Hornets (4-15-1, 2-13-1 MIAA) tied the score when Sarah Anderson found the net from 15 yards away from Raquel White at the 36:03 mark. The match stayed even until Llewellyn nailed a shot from 10 yards out off an assist from Jentri White in the 102nd minute that gave the Lions the win. The overall shot count was even at 17-17, but the Lions had a slight edge in shots-on-goal, 9-8. Llewellyn had a team-high six shots for Southern. Llewellyn finishes her outstanding career as the Lions' all-time leader in points (109) and goals (49). Ironically, Llewellyn scored the Lions' first goal of freshman year in 2005 and the last goal of her senior season in 2008. MSSU goalkeeper Randi Russell and ESU keeper Jennifer Stillmock each had seven saves.
