FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joplin, Mo. -- After a scoreless first half, the Washburn Lady Blues struck for three goals in the second half for a 3-0 victory over the Missouri Southern Lions Thursday night (Nov. 6) at Hal Bodon Field. Danielle Ayala got the Lady Blues going 10 minutes into the second half off a cross from Jessica Mainz for a 1-0 lead. Ayala later assisted on a goal from inside the box by Keeley Lambeth at the 74:07 mark to put the Lady Blues up by two goals. Traci Nigg then put the finishing touches on the win by scoring off a direct kick in the 86th minute for the Lady Blues' third goal. The Lady Blues (13-6-2, 9-5-1 MIAA) out-shot the Lions 21-8 overall, including a 10-2 edge in the second half. WU also had an 8-4 advantage in shots-on-goal. Stephanie Heines led the Lions (5-12-1, 3-11-1 MIAA) with five shots, while Ayala and Mainz also had five for the Lady Blues. Lions' goalkeeper Randi Russell made five saves for Southern and Ashley Klone stopped four shots for the Lady Blues. The Lions will wrap up the 2008 campaign at home vs. Emporia State on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 9) at 2 p.m.
