FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joplin, Mo. -- Despite holding an 18-7 shots advantage, the Missouri Southern Lions couldn't crack the scoreboard and settled for a 0-0, double-overtime tie with the Missouri Western Griffons in an MIAA contest Thursday night (Oct. 23) at Fred Hughes Stadium. The Lions had plenty of scoring opportunities, particularly in the overtime periods when they out-shot the Griffons 8-1. Jentri White had a shot from 20 yards out sail wide at the 8:36 point of the first overtime period, followed by a good look by Nikki Llewellyn 15 yards away that Griffons' goalkeeper Jenna Weis stepped in and made a save. Sarah Evers then had a scoring chance in the middle from 10 yards away during the second overtime, but Weis again thwarted the opportunity with a diving save. The Lions (4-9-1, 2-8-1 MIAA) had four shots-on-goal while holding the Griffons to none. Llewellyn led the Lions with four shots, while Michelle Canovi and Mary Ohm each had two shots for the Griffons (2-12-3, 1-10-2 MIAA). The Lions will next play on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 25) in Kirksville, Mo. against Truman State. The match is slated for 2 p.m.
