FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Bolivar, Mo. --The Southwest Baptist Bearcats struck for three goals just 11 minutes apart in the final 14 minutes to defeat the Missouri Southern Lions 3-0 Thursday afternoon (Oct. 16) in Bolivar, Mo. Rhiane Mitchell snapped the scoreless tie with the first of her two goals in the 76th minute before Nicola Cousins followed that with a goal from Kelly Isaac three minutes later to put SBU ahead 2-0. Cousins then assisted on Mitchell's second tally at the 87:51 mark to round out the scoring. Mitchell and Cousins once again hurt the Lions after each recorded a hat trick in the Bearcats' 6-1 win earlier this year in Joplin. The Lions (4-8, 2-7 MIAA) kept the Bearcats off the scoreboard for for the first 75 minutes despite being out-shot 30-5 overall and 11-3 on-goal, including a 12-1 deficit in the opening half. Audrey Copenhaver led the Lions with two shots, while Cousins had a match-high 12 for SBU (8-2-2, 7-2-1 MIAA). MSSU goalkeeper Randi Russell held off the Bearcats for much of the match by recording eight saves. Johanna Olsson stopped three shots for the Bearcats. The Lions will now get ready to play at Central Missouri on Saturday night (Oct. 18) at 7 p.m. in Warrensburg, Mo.
