FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Emporia, Kan. -- Nikki Llewellyn scored three goals and also dished out one assist to give her 103 career points as the Missouri Southern Lions won their second straight match, 5-1 over the Emporia State Hornets Thursday afternoon (Oct. 2) in Emporia, Kan. The win marks the 50th career victory for Trevor Wachsman as Missouri Southern head coach. Llewellyn's first goal came in the 11th minute off an assist from Megan Walker to give the Lions the early lead. Sarah Evers then fed Llewellyn nine minutes later on a breakaway that gave Southern a 2-0 advantage. The Lions continued to add on in the first half when Brianna McKenzie found the loose ball and put it in the net from 15 yards out at the 38:46 mark. Llewellyn, the Lions' all-time goals and scoring leader, completed her first career hat trick by scoring in the middle of the box off a cross from Jentri White that put the Lions (4-6, 2-5 MIAA) ahead 4-0 in the 58th minute of play. White and Llewellyn then teamed up again just three minutes later, this time with Llewellyn setting up White for the Lions' fifth goal of the match. Alicia Smith helped the Hornets (3-7, 1-5 MIAA) avoid the shutout by scoring from 12 yards away off an assist from Alison Germany at the 77:08 mark. Southern out-shot the Hornets 22-13 overall and 9-7 on-goal. Randi Russell made six saves for the Lions, while the Hornets' Jennifer Stillmock stopped four shots. The Lions will look to make it three straight wins when they play at Washburn on Saturday night (Oct. 4) at 7 p.m. in Topeka, Kan.
