FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joplin, Mo.. -- Nikki Llewellyn (O'Fallon, Mo.) scored two goals to become Missouri Southern's all-time leading goal scorer as the Lions defeated the Emporia State Hornets 6-0 Saturday afternoon (Oct. 27) on Senior Day at Hal Bodon Field. Also, seniors Erin Whelan (Belleville, Ill.), Lauren Kurelac (Blue Springs, Mo.) and Angela Westphal (Skiatook, Okla.) ended their playing careers in style by each scoring a goal in the match. The season-ending win gives the Lions 11 victories for the third straight season, tying the school record. Llewellyn's first score came on a penalty kick in the 18th minute. She then added another tally from 20 yards out 6:20 later to put the Lions up 2-0. Llewellyn then assisted on the goal by Whelan just 1:22 into the second half for a 3-0 Southern lead. Allison Schaughnessey (St. Louis, Mo.) put the Lions (11-5-3, 7-5-2 MIAA) ahead by four goals with her first career score at the 57:34 mark. Kurelac scored on a feed from Westphal at the 62:01 point, then Westphal found the net off an assist from Christina Kleekamp (Defiance, Mo.) in the 79th minute. Senior Kaney Tyler (Topeka, Kan.) concluded her career by making two saves. Tyler finishes her career as MSSU's all-time leader in saves, shutouts, goals-against-average and minutes. Megan Martin recorded five saves for the Hornets (0-19, 0-14 MIAA). The Hornets also had a team save. The Lions controlled the match throughout, out-shooting Emporia 24-4 overall and 12-2 on-goal. Notes: Coming into weekend, Llewellyn ranked 23rd in goals-per-game (0.882) and 39th in points-per-game (1.88). Tyler was 37th in goals-against-average (0.831) and 47th in save percentage (0.826).
