Truman scores early and defeats No. 25 Lions, 3-1

-- Truman State scored twice in the first ten minutes to put the Missouri Southern Lions in an early hole and held off the Lions attack, to defeat Southern, 3-1 today in Kirksville.

The Lions (10-5-2, 6-5-1 MIAA) fall for the second time this year to the Bulldogs and for the time, Truman moves into first place in front of Central Missouri and Washburn. The Lady Blues and Jennies will play tonight in Topeka.

Truman (12-4-1, 9-2-1 MIAA) scored in the eighth and ninth minutes when Katie Reuck and Jessica Wiegert put the Bulldogs up 2-0 early on. Reuck added her second goal of the game to put Truman up 3-0 in the 77th minute.

Nikki Llewellyn added her 15th goal of the season to cut the lead to 3-1 just over a minute to play. The goal is a new career high for Llewellyn and puts the junior just one shy of tying the Missouri Southern career record and four away from the season mark.

Kaney Tyler had five saves in goal for the Lions.

Southern will come back home for their final two matches of the regular season, playing host to Washburn on Friday, October 26 and Emporia State on Saturday, October 27.
