Box Score Southern (10-3-2, 6-3-1) is tied with Southwest Baptist for third place in the MIAA. Truman State lost tonight to Washburn in Topeka. Central and Truman are tied with 22 points for the MIAA lead, while the Lions and SBU are tied with 19 points. The Lions opened up the scoring in the 58th minute when Ashley Turner took a pass from Allison Shaughnessey for her second goal of the year. Nikki Llewellyn added an insurance goal, number 14 on the year, in the 83rd minute. The 14 goals ties her career high and is five off the single-season mark of 19 set in 2002 by Ashley Munnelly. Llewellyn has 34 goals in her career now, which is just two off the career record, also held by Munnelly. Tyler played all 90 minutes making four saves as the Jennies (9-3-2, 7-2-1) out shot Southern 13-7 for the match. It was the fifth shutout of the year for the senior from Topeka. Llewellyn had four shots, while Sarah Evars had two shots, both on goal. Amy Davis and Shaughnessey both picked up an assist. The Lions will be back in action on Friday, October 19 when they travel to Maryville to take on Northwest Missouri State at 2 pm. |
