Lions win 3-1 at
Missouri Western

Nikki Llewellyn (O'Fallon, Mo.) scored two goals as part of a three-goal
first half explosion for the Lions to lead Missouri Southern to a 3-1
win over the Missouri Western Griffons Friday night (Oct. 12) in St.
Joseph, Mo.
Amy Davis (Fenton, Mo.) got the Lions (9-3-1, 5-3-1 MIAA) off and
running with a goal from the middle of the box from Ashley Turner
(Columbia, Mo.) in just the 11th minute of action.
Llewellyn then took over with a score in the 32nd minute off a direct
kick to make it 2-0 Lions, then followed that with a breakaway goal just
10 minutes later for her team-leading 13th goal of the season.
Michelle Polk scored the Griffons' lone goal early in the second half on
a header from Heather Schmiemeier in the 47th minute of the match.
Lisa Senkle (Tracy, Calif.) recorded five saves for Southern, while
Shaylynn Milbourn stopped six shots for the Griffons (2-12, 1-8 MIAA).
The shots were even at 12-12 overall, but the Lions out-shot Western 9-6
on-goal.
MSSU will next gear up for an MIAA showdown against MIAA-leading and No.
5-ranked Central Missouri tomorrow night (Oct. 13) at 7 p.m. in
Warrensburg, Mo. The Jennies won the season's first matchup with a goal
late in the second half to secure a 1-0 win in Joplin.
