Lions fall late to #8 Central Missouri, 1-0

Joplin, Mo.. -- Lindsay Hoerl scored a goal late in the second half to snap a scoreless tie and lift the No. 8-ranked Central Missouri Jennies to a 1-0 win over the Missouri Southern Lions Friday afternoon (Sept. 21) at Hal Bodon Field.

The lone goal of the match came in the 80th minute of the second half when Hoerl pushed the ball into the net from about 10 yards out for the game-winner.

It was a tale of two halves in shot-attempts, as the Lions held an 8-3 shots edge in the first half, but UCM turned it around and out-shot Southern 8-3 in the second.  The Lions led 7-5 in shots-on-goal.

Nikki Llewellyn (O'Fallon, Mo.) and Stephanie Heines (San Antonio, Texas) led the Lions (5-2-2, 2-2 MIAA) with three shots each, while Melanie Hall also paced the Jennies (6-1-1, 3-0 MIAA) with three shot-attempts. 

Llewellyn and Heines each had a team-high two shots-on-goal for Southern.

Goalkeeper Kaney Tyler (Topeka, Kan.) made four saves for the Lions and Elizabeth Casey stopped seven shots for UCM.

The Lions will look to get back on a winning note as they will host Missouri Western tomorrow (Sept. 22) beginning at 4 p.m.
