FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joplin, Mo.. -- Junior Nikki Llewellyn (O'Fallon, Mo.) netted her team-leading fifth goal of the season as the Missouri Southern Lions knocked off the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats 1-0 on a rainy Saturday afternoon (Sept. 15) at Hal Bodon Field. The Southern goal came in the 23rd minute of the first half as Northwest goalkeeper Lauren Hodgson overplayed the ball and Llewellyn found an open net to put in the score off an assist from Megan Walker (Grapevine, Texas). Llewellyn's goal proved to be enough as the Lions defense held the Bearcats to only one shot-on-goal in the match. Kaney Tyler (Topeka, Kan.) made one save, while her counterpart Hodgson recorded three stops for the Bearcats (0-5-0, 0-2 MIAA). The Lions (5-1-1, 2-1 MIAA) out-shot Northwest 10-6 overall and 4-1 on-goal. Llewellyn, Jentri White (Catoosa, Okla.) and Fenton, Mo. natives Amy Davis and Sarah Evers led the Lions with two shots each. Amanda Deml paced the Bearcats with three shot attempts. MSSU will remain at home for MIAA action to face 15th ranked Central Missouri next Friday (Sept. 21) beginning at 4 p.m. at Hal Bodon Field.
