Bulldogs rally to defeat Lions in final minutes

Joplin, Mo.. -- The Truman Bulldogs scored two goals in the final six minutes to hand the Missouri Southern Lions their first loss of the season Friday night (Sept. 14) at Hal Bodon Field.

Trailing 1-0 in the 84th minute,  Katelyn Talcott evened the match off an assist from Jessica Wiegert on a corner kick to even the match at 1-1. 

Truman (4-2, 1-0 MIAA) struck again just over a minute later as Katie Reuck found the net from Katie Buning for the game winner at the 85:29 mark.

The Lions (4-1-1, 1-1 MIAA) grabbed the lead in the first half when Stephanie Heines (San Antonio, Texas) launched a shot that bounced off goalkeeper Emily Roark's hands and right to Jentri White (Catoosa, Okla.), who put it in at the 26:48 mark.

The stats showed how close and tightly competitive the match was, as the shots were even at 9-9 and the shots-on-goal stood at 6-6.

Kaney Tyler (Topeka, Kan.) made four stops for Southern, while Roark recorded five saves for the Bulldogs.

MSSU will get right back at it tomorrow with a 4 p.m. contest against Northwest Missouri State at Hal Bodon Field.
