Lions battle Texas Woman's to 1-1 double overtime draw

-- The Missouri Southern launched 28 shot-attempts, two shy of the school record, but were forced to settle for a 1-1, double-overtime tie at the Texas Woman's Pioneers Sunday afternoon (Sept. 9) at Denton, Texas.

Jentri White (Catoosa, Okla.) put the Lions on the board in the 24th minute with her second goal of the season.

The Lions (4-0-1, 1-0 MIAA) maintained that lead until Raven Morales found the net from inside the box with an assist from Christine Hornisher with less than eight minutes remaining.

The Lions were unable to secure the victory despite out-shooting the Pioneers (2-3-1) by a whopping 8-1 in the pair of overtimes.

Nikki Llewellyn (O'Fallon, Mo.) led the Lions' with six shots as Southern held a 13-8 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Lions' goalie Kaney Tyler (Topeka, Kan.) made seven saves, while Aly Vincent made 12 stops for the Pioneers.

MSSU will next resume MIAA action with a home match against Truman on Friday night (Sept. 14) at 4 p.m. in the friendly confines of Hal Bodon Field.
