Lions stay
undefeated with 2-1 win at Abilene Christian

Nikki Llewellyn (O'Fallon, Mo.) and Angela Westphal (Skiatook, Okla.)
each scored a goal in the first half as the Missouri Southern Lions won
their fourth straight to begin the 2007 season 2-1 over the Abilene
Christian Wildcats Friday evening (Sept. 7) in Abilene, Texas.
Llewellyn put the Lions (4-0) on the board in the 32nd minute with her
team-leading fifth goal of the season off a corner kick from Erin Whelan
(Belleville, Ill).
Westphal's goal came just six minutes later to give Southern a 2-0
advantage heading into the half.
The Lions maintained the two-goal edge until Jordan Reese found the net
in the 64th minute for the lone ACU score of the match.
Both squads had their share of scoring chances, as the Lions held a
22-15 edge in shot-attempts, including a 16-10 advantage in the first
half.
MSSU goalkeeper Kaney Tyler (Topeka, Kan.) made six saves against seven
shots-on-goal. Paige Farmer started the match in the net for ACU (4-2)
and allowed two goals with four saves before giving way to Allison Maust.
Maust recorded one save in 43 minutes.
Llewellyn led the Lions with a whopping eight shots, one shy of the MSSU
single-game record.
Southern will remain in Texas for a matchup with Texas Women's
University on Sunday (Sept. 9) at 1 p.m. in Denton, Texas.
