Sweep MIAA Player/Defender of the Week Honors
Overland Park, Kan. --
Senior keeper Kaney Tyler and junior forward Nikki Llewellyn have been
named the Brine/MIAA Women's Soccer Players of the Week as announced by
the league office today.
Tyler, a 5-foot-7 senior from Topeka,
Kan., went 2-0 with a 0.50 GAA and posted her 23rd career shutout for
the Lions last weekend.
She made five saves on seven shots to blank Delta (Miss.) State, 6-0,
Saturday (Aug. 25). Four of the saves came in the second half.
Tyler allowed one goal on five shots and made two saves in a 4-1 win the
next day against Harding (Ark.). She is a graduate of Seaman High
School.
Llewellyn, a 5-foot-7 junior from O'Fallon, Mo., had a part in four of
the Lions' 10 goals scored as they started the season with a pair of
home wins last weekend. Her goal in the 38th minute gave MSSU a 2-0 lead
en route to a 6-0 win over Delta (Miss.) State Saturday (Aug. 25).
The next day against Harding (Ark.), Llewellyn scored twice and assisted
on a third goal in a 4-1 win. She assisted on Jentri White's goal in the
60th minute to give MSSU a 2-1 lead, then added goals in the 84th and
89th minutes to put the game away. Lewellyn is a graduate of Francis
Howell High School.
The Lions will be back in action August
31 when they travel to Southwest Baptist for a 5 pm start.
