FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joplin, Mo.. -- Trailing 1-0 early in the second half, the No. 19-ranked Missouri Southern Lions responded in a big way with four unanswered goals and won for the second time in as many tries in 2007, 4-1 over the Harding (Ark.) Lady Bisons Sunday (Aug. 26) at Hal Bodon Field. Nikki Llewellyn (O'Fallon, Mo.) led the Lions' charge with two goals and one assist. The first half ended scoreless despite the Lions out-shooting the Lady Bisons 7-1. HU grabbed the lead in the fifth minute of the second half as Linsey Clissold took a center pass from 10 feet out from Kendyl Washburn and put it in the net for a 1-0 Harding lead. The Lions (2-0) would take control from there however as Sarah Evers (Fenton, Mo.) put in her first career goal off an assist from Allison Schaughnessey (St. Louis, Mo.) to even the score at 1-1 in the 59th minute of action. Llewellyn then took charge by assisting on a Jentri White (Catoosa, Okla.) goal in the 81st minute and putting in a pair of goals just five minutes apart, the last score coming on a direct kick from 25 yards out from Erin Whelan (Belleville, Ill.). The MSSU defense didn't allow much, as Southern goalkeeper Kaney Tyler (Topeka, Kan.) made two saves against just four shots. Hannah Douglas faced 16 Lion shot-attempts and recorded eight saves on the day for HU (1-1). The Lions had a huge 12-3 advantage over the Lady Bisons in shots-on-goal. With three goals and an assist so far this season, Llewellyn is now in elite company in the MSSU record books, ranking second in school history in both goals scored (23) and total points (54). Llewellyn trails only Ashley Munnelly in both categories. Munnelly finished her career at MSSU with 36 goals and 83 total points. Southern will next open up MIAA action with a contest in Bolivar, Mo. against Southwest Baptist on Friday (Aug. 31) at 5 p.m.
