FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joplin, MO. -- Sophomore Megan Walker (Grapevine, Texas) scored the game-winning tally with less than 10 minutes left to snap a 1-1 tie and give Missouri Southern a 2-1 win over the previously unbeaten Southwest Baptist Bearcats Thursday night (Sept. 7) in the MIAA opener for both squads at Hal Bodon Field. The goal is the third of Walker's career and first game-winner. Southern carried the one-goal lead into the second half until SBU's Vicky Bright scored off a header from about five yards out to even the match at 1-1. Lions junior goalkeeper Kaney Tyler (Topeka, Kan.) made six saves, while SBU goalkeeper Kelsey Lueckenhoff recorded three stops for the Bearcats. Overall, SBU out-shot the Lions 9-7, while also holding a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
