Lions lose at No. 1 ranked Nebraska-Omaha

Omaha, Nebraska -- Beth McGill scored two goals, and Brandie Beale netted one score and added an assist as the defending Division II National Champion and current No. 1-ranked Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks remained unbeaten by defeating Missouri Southern 5-0 Sunday afternoon (Sept. 3) in Omaha, Neb.

It didn't take long for the Mavericks (5-0) to take command as McGill scored her first goal just 4:25 into the match to give UNO the early lead.

The Mavericks struck again in the 17th minute as Casey Bigsby scored off an assist from Danielle McCawley to give UNO a 2-0 lead they would take into halftime.

UNO continued the onslaught in the second half by adding three more tallies and cruised to the five goal victory.

Junior goalkeeper Kaney Tyler (Topeka, Kan.) made 15 stops in the match for the Lions, who failed to record a shot-on-goal and were out-shot 28-3 overall in the match.

Overall, Missouri Southern split at the Nebraska-Omaha Tournament and now stand at 2-2 overall on the season.

MSSU will next open MIAA conference action by hosting Southwest Baptist Thursday evening (Sept. 7) at 7 p.m. at Bodon Field.
