Lion women earn NSCAA honors
Team plans alumni game for Saturday, April 1

JOPLIN, Mo.   Missouri Southern's women's soccer team recently collected a few more honors, these from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), after their highly successful 2005 season.

The Lions, who finished the most recent campaign with an 11-5-4 overall record, earned an NSCAA Team Academic Award and an NSCAA Team Ethics Award.

To receive the Team Academic Award, a soccer program must have a 3.0 team grade-point average for the 2004-05 school year. The Lion women turned in a GPA of 3.43 and were one of 253 women's teams around the country to earn the distinction.

Junior nursing major Jessica Buhman (Olathe, Kan), with a 3.34 GPA, was an honorable mention selection on the All-Central Region Scholar Athlete Team.

The Lions were one of 15 teams, men or women, in all divisions of collegiate soccer to receive a "Gold" Team Ethics Award. To earn the gold award, a team must go through the entire season with no cautions (yellow cards) or ejections (red cards).

Missouri Southern, which finished tied for second in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) with a 7-3-4 league record, is currently in the midst of its spring schedule.

The Lions have planned an alumni game for 5 p.m., Saturday (April 1) at Hal Bodon Field. The game will follow the Lions' spring contest against Drury (scheduled for 11 a.m.).

Prior to the alumni game, MSSU women's soccer alums and other friends of the program will be meeting for lunch at 1 p.m. at Logan's Roadhouse restaurant on Rangeline near the Northpark Mall.
