Lions announce three signees for women's soccer

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Missouri Southern head women's soccer coach Trevor Wachsman has announced the additions of three newcomers, two incoming freshmen and one transfer, for the 2006 season.

Jessica Harthcock and Stephanie Heines, both from the state of Texas, have signed national letters-of-intent with the MSSU program. Additionally, Lisa Senkle, a goalkeeper from California, will transfer to the Lions.

"While this is a small recruiting class, it does not lack in quality," said Wachsman. "I am very excited to be adding these student-athletes to the group that we have returning. Jessica, Stephanie, and Lisa are all great individuals and each one will bring talents to this team that will complement the current players and definitely make us a stronger, deeper team. As a group we all can't wait to get started in August."

Harthcock is a 5-foot-5 forward from Boerne (Texas) High School, where she is a three-time soccer all-district performer, including first-team honors as a freshman and again as a junior. Also a first-team all-region player as a junior, she is a four-year starter for the Greyhounds of coach Wayne Hinkley.

Harthcock also stands out on the track, as she has won the last two district titles in the 100-meter dash. She was named outstanding track athlete in 2005 and has helped the school's 4x100- and 4x200-meter relay teams to regional titles in each of the last three seasons.

Heines, a 5-foot-4 midfielder/forward from San Antonio, Texas, is a four-year starter in soccer for coach Audrey Ambrose at James Madison High School in San Antonio. She was a first-team all-district, all-city and all-region pick as a junior after earning first-team all-district honors as a sophomore. Heines scored a combined 23 goals, including 14 as a sophomore, over the last two seasons and helped the Mavericks to the bi-district title as a freshman and to the regional crown as a sophomore.

Harthcock and Heines, whose senior prep seasons are under way as Texas plays high school women's soccer in the spring, are also club teammates on the Lions Futball Club in San Antonio, playing for the club's coaching director Peter Moore.

Senkle, a 5-foot-11 goalkeeper, is transferring to Southern from Cal State-Los Angeles where she redshirted as a freshman. A 2004 graduate of Merrill F. West High School in Tracy, Calif., Senkle was a three-sport athlete as a prep. In soccer, she was a three-year letterwinner, a three-time team MVP, and a first-team all-conference selection while leading the Wolfpack into the postseason each of her three seasons. Senkle scored more than 40 goals during her prep career and was named her school's outstanding athlete. She also lettered in volleyball and track.

In 2006, Missouri Southern returns all of its starters from last year's team that finished 11-5-4 overall and tied for second in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association with a 7-3-4 ledger. The 2005 Lions tied the school record for victories and had their best-ever MIAA finish while also achieving the program's first-ever national ranking.
