FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wachsman announces two more signees
Cairo, Sealy heading to Southern for
women’s soccer
Head coach Trevor Wachsman recently
announced that two more current high school seniors have
announced their intentions to join the Missouri Southern
women’s soccer program.
High school teammates Elise Cairo and Katelyn Sealy will
join the MSSU Lions in 2005-06, Wachsman said.
Cairo, a 5-foot-7 midfielder, has been a
four-year starter in soccer at Mountain View High School in
Loveland, Colo. She was an honorable mention all-conference
pick as a freshman and as a sophomore and earned first-team
all-conference accolades as a junior.
Sealy is a four-year letterwinner also on
the Mountain Lions squad. She has been a two-year starter as a
defender and has been selected for the all-area team and the
all-area academic team. The 5-foot-6 Sealy is a two-year team
captain.
In club soccer, Sealy helped her squad to
the Kick Off State Championship.
Both Cairo and Sealy have been key players
in helping MVHS to state playoff appearances in each of the
last three seasons.
The two newest additions join seven
previous signees for the Missouri Southern State University
squad. The Lions’ February signees included: Jayme Hensley (San
Angelo, Texas), Christina Kleekamp (Defiance, Mo.), Nikki
Llewellyn (O’Fallon, Mo.), Allison Schaughnessey
(St. Louis, Mo.), Kristen Schulze (Imperial, Mo.), Megan
Walker (Grapevine, Texas), and Jentri White (Tulsa,
Okla.).
“The nucleus of our team will be with
the freshmen and sophomores next year, but we had some spots to
fill with the departure of this year’s senior
class,” Wachsman said. “We’re excited to add
these two players to our already strong recruiting
class.”
In 2005, Wachsman’s third season at
the helm, Missouri Southern will return 15 letterwinners from
the 2004 squad that finished with a 10-8-2 record and was named
one of the most improved teams in NCAA Division II. The Lions
also turned in an 8-5-1 mark in the Mid-America Intercollegiate
Athletics Association, good for third place.
