Women’s soccer schedule for 2004 released
Lions open at home on Sept. 4

Head women’s soccer coach Trevor Wachsman has announced his squad’s 2004 schedule. The slate includes nine home dates, but just two prior to the month of October.

Southern kicks off its 2004 season, the second year for head coach Trevor Wachsman, on Aug. 28-29 with road meetings at Wayne State (Neb.) and Augustana (S.D.). The Lions’ MIAA and home opener is set for Sept. 4 with Northwest Missouri State.

The Green & Gold will face off with two squads that ended the 2003 season in the NSCAA Top 25. Missouri Southern visits 2003 national semifinalist Nebraska-Omaha on Sept. 19 and has a pair of matches against Truman, the five-time MIAA champion. UNO ended the season ranked No. 4 in the nation, while Truman was 18th.

The Lions battle three more teams that appeared among the top 10 in the final 2003 regional polls. Northeastern State (Okla.), the No. 10-ranked team in the Midwest Region at the end of the most recent campaign, visits Joplin on Oct. 6 as Southern plays eight of its last 11 at Hal Bodon Field. The NSU clash will mark the first game of a doubleheader at MSSU. The Southern men also tangle with the Redmen that same evening.

Also on the slate for the Southern women is a pair of dates with MIAA runner-up Southwest Baptist, the No. 8-ranked team in the Central Region last year, and a Nov. 5 clash with Rockhurst, which finished with a No. 6 ranking in the Central Region.
