All-MIAA Women’s Soccer Team announced
Five from third-place Lions make all-conference squad

Missouri Southern State University had five players named to the All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Women’s Soccer Team, as selected by the league’s coaches.

Southern, which tied for third in the final MIAA standings, had three players picked for second-team honors: senior Tera Reisner (San Angelo, Texas/Lees McRae College), sophomore Jessica Buhman (Olathe, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) and freshman Ashley Turner (Columbia, Mo./Hickman). Honorable mention accolades went to junior Alese Woolard (Claremore, Okla./Oologah) and senior Sarah Sneed (Topeka, Kan./Washburn Rural).

Reisner ranks sixth in the MIAA in goals (9 - 0.45 per game) and points (23 - 1.15 pg). Her six game-winning goals this year ranked second in the MIAA and tied a Missouri Southern record. A first-team all-conference and third-team all-region selection last year, the 5-foot-1 forward finishes her career second in Lions history with 22 goals and 51 total points in just two seasons at MSSU.

Buhman, a 5-foot-4 defender and on the second team for the second straight year, teamed with backfield teammate Turner to bolster a Missouri Southern defense that turned in a school record six shutouts and ranked third in the MIAA with a 1.04 goals-against average.

Buhman had two goals this year, including the team’s first of the year and the tying score in a 2-1 home loss to Southwest Baptist on Oct. 30.

The 5-foot-10 Turner was one of four freshman honored on the first or second team. She had seven shots, including five on goal and started every game of her initial collegiate campaign.

Woolard, a 5-foot-5 goalkeeper, added all-conference recognition in soccer to her already impressive athletics resume. An All-MIAA and all-region softball player with the Lions, she turned in a school record-tying three shutouts in her first season of collegiate soccer. Woolard finished third in the MIAA with a 1.29 goals-against average and fourth with 5.83 saves per game.

Sneed, a 5-foot-4 midfielder, started all 20 games this year and tied for second on the team with three goals, including game-winners in both meetings with Missouri-Rolla, and added a pair of assists. She finishes her MSSU career, which spanned 70 games and 67 starting assignments, in fourth on the Lions’ career goals (8) assists (8) and total points (24) charts. Sneed is also a two-time MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll selection and currently serves as president of the MSSU Student-Athlete Advisory Council.

Missouri Southern’s 10-8-2 overall record in 2004, head coach Trevor Wachsman’s second at the helm, marked a seven-win improvement for the squad over the 2003 season. The Lions turned in an 8-5-1 ledger in MIAA play, tied for their best-ever conference finish, and finished up the year ranked 10th in the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America Central Region poll.
