Woolard named Wilson/MIAA Athlete of the
Week
Missouri Southern State University
goalkeeper Alese Woolard (Claremore, Okla./Oologah HS) was named
Wilson/Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association
Goalkeeper of the Week today, the conference announced.
Woolard, a 5-foot-5 junior, logged a pair
of shutouts for the Lions in posting a 1-0-1 record last week.
She made five saves in 120 minutes to maintain a 0-0 tie
against Rockhurst on Friday (Nov. 5). Two days later, Woolard
made two saves as Southern defeated Central Missouri State,
2-0.
With three shutouts this season, Woolard,
also an All-MIAA and all-region softball player for the Lions,
ties three others for the single-season team record.
For the season, Woolard recorded 70 saves
and a 1.29 goals-against average in 12 games. She posted a
6-5-1 record in goal this year, her first year participating in
college soccer.
The Missouri Southern State Univeristy
women’s soccer team finished the 2004 season with a
10-8-2 record, an improvement of seven wins from the 2003
campaign. The Lions also went 8-5-1 in the MIAA, finishing tied
for third in the league standings.
