Woolard named Wilson/MIAA Athlete of the Week

Missouri Southern State University goalkeeper Alese Woolard (Claremore, Okla./Oologah HS) was named Wilson/Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Goalkeeper of the Week today, the conference announced.

Woolard, a 5-foot-5 junior, logged a pair of shutouts for the Lions in posting a 1-0-1 record last week. She made five saves in 120 minutes to maintain a 0-0 tie against Rockhurst on Friday (Nov. 5). Two days later, Woolard made two saves as Southern defeated Central Missouri State, 2-0.

With three shutouts this season, Woolard, also an All-MIAA and all-region softball player for the Lions, ties three others for the single-season team record.

For the season, Woolard recorded 70 saves and a 1.29 goals-against average in 12 games. She posted a 6-5-1 record in goal this year, her first year participating in college soccer.

The Missouri Southern State Univeristy women’s soccer team finished the 2004 season with a 10-8-2 record, an improvement of seven wins from the 2003 campaign. The Lions also went 8-5-1 in the MIAA, finishing tied for third in the league standings.
