Boessen named Wilson/MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week
Senior keeper recorded fifth career shutout last week

For the second straight week, the Missouri Southern women’s soccer team has a Wilson/Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Player of the Week.

Last week, junior forward Tera Reisner captured the honor. This week, senior goalkeeper Kim Boessen (Holts Summit, Mo./Jefferson City Helias HS) earned the award that’s designated specifically for goalkeepers.

Boessen charted her fifth career shutout in a 2-0 win Thursday (Sept. 25) over Central Missouri State, helping the Lions to remain unbeaten in MIAA action (2-0-1). She moved into a tie atop the Missouri Southern career list for shutouts, tying Moe Ybarra (2000-01).

Boessen needed to make just two saves in the victory over Central Missouri, as Southern prevailed thanks to a pair of goals from Reisner in the 72nd and 78th minutes.

Boessen has played every minute of the 2003 season in goal for the Lions (750:00). She currently ranks No. 2 on the MSSU all-time lists for career minutes (2405:43) and saves (172).

Missouri Southern (3-4-1 overall) resumes its schedule on Wednesday when it visits Nothwest Missouri State for a 4 p.m. contest.
