Two Soccer Lady Lions earn NSCAA All-Region Honors
Two sophomores from the Missouri Southern women's soccer team were picked for second-team accolades on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Central Region squad, head coach Geoff VanDeusen announced today.
Forward Ashley Munnelly (Springfield, Mo.) and defender Alicia Givens (Owasso, Okla.) were named to the second-team on the all-region squad.
Munnelly, who was also named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association's MVP in 2002, scored a conference and school record 19 goals and also set the MIAA record with 43 points this year. In just two years, the 5-8 sophomore has 36 goals, 83 points and four hat tricks. She was also a second-team Verizon Academic All-District VII selection this year.
From her sweeper position, Givens scored two goals and added one assist for the Lady Lions in 2002. A starter in all 38 games over the last two seasons, she was a first-team All-MIAA choice for the second straight year.
The Lady Lions finished the 2002 campaign with an 11-5-2 record, the best in school history. They also posted a program-best 7-3-2 ledger in MIAA action, finishing third in the final league standings.
