FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Oct. 6, 2009 Southern's Siler named MIAA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week Kansas City, Mo. -- After helping the Missouri Southern women's cross country program to a huge finish this past weekend at the Oklahoma State Jamboree, freshman Ashley Siler has been named the MIAA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office. Siler, a 5-6 freshman from Granby, Mo., finished the 5k course in a time of 17:46.50 and was the second highest finishing division II runner helping the Lions, who came in to the meet ranked seventh nationally, finished fifth overall. Southern was the top Division II scoring team, taking out No. 1 ranked Adams State, No. 11 ranked Western State, and No. 18 ranked Pittsburg State in the process. This is the third award the Lions have won this year as Siler joins Kimi Shank who has won it twice. The Lions will be back in action next weekend as both teams will have representation in the GLVC/MIAA meet at Missouri S&T. |
