Kimi Shank Named MIAA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week


Kansas City, Mo. --  Southern junior Kimi Shank (Rolla, Mo.) has been named the MIAA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week as announced by the league office today.

Shank finished 11th and was the top Division II runner in the University Division of the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree Saturday (Oct. 4).

She finished the 6k course with a time of 21 minutes, 38 seconds. Shank defeated the 2007 NCAA Division II South Central Regional champion, Winrose Karunde of Abilene Christian (Texas), by 30 seconds.

The Lions were 11th overall and the top D-II team in the division -- ahead of Texas Christian, Texas Tech, Saint Louis (Mo.) and Oral Roberts (Okla.) from NCAA Division I.

Southern will be back in action this weekend as the Lions head to Edwardsville, Illinois to compete in the Missouri/Illinois Border Wars.
