Men's and women's cross country climb national polls in preparation for weekend competition

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's and women's cross country programs both moved up this week in the national polls as the women are ninth and the men are 14th in the latest edition of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll.

The women, fresh off a second place finish at the Southern Stampede, moved up to No. 1 in the South Central Region Poll this week. Southern defeated four ranked opponents at the Stampede, including, 10th ranked UC-San Diego, 12th ranked Pittsburg State, 16th ranked Southwest Baptist and 24th ranked Harding.

The Southern men, also coming off of a second-place finish at the Stampede, held fast to second place in the South Central Region this week, but moved up in the national rankings to 14th. The Lions defeated three other ranked teams including then ninth ranked Harding, then 22nd ranked Southwest Baptist, and then 25th ranked Drury.

Both squads are in action this weekend as the men will travel to Stillwater, Okla. for the Oklahoma State Jamboree on Saturday, September 29 and the women will travel to Chicago to participate in the Loyola Lakefront Invitational also on Saturday.
