Patty Vavra named MIAA Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year
Overland Park, Kan. -- Missouri Southern Women's Cross
Country coach Patty Vavra has been named the MIAA Women's Cross
Country Coach of the Year in a vote by her peers today. This is
Vavra's third Coach of the Year honor, winning the award for
cross country in 1998, and also for indoor track in 2004.
Vavra led the Lions to this
year's MIAA Cross Country Championship with a nine-point victory
over Southwest Baptist. It was the second time the Lions have
captured the MIAA Title. Southern
had all five scoring runners in the top 25, with two -- freshman
Kimi Shank (seventh) and sophomore Alison Walker (eighth)
earning All-MIAA honors.
Southern was fifth out of seven schools in last season's MIAA
championship run.
The Lions finished fourth in the
NCAA South Central Regional this year and were ranked second in
the regional rankings for most of the season, as well as
finishing the regular season ranked 25th nationally. |
