Pierce, Wood earn All-MIAA recognition

Kansas City, Mo. -- Senior Tynesha Pierce (Houston, Texas) has been selected to the All-MIAA second-team, while junior India Wood (Decatur, Ala.) has earned honorable-mention all-conference honors, as announced by the league office today.

Pierce leads the Lions this season with 12.1 points a game, along with 5.6 rebounds per outing and a team-leading 44 steals.  She also made herself a long-distance threat this season, knocking 10-of-22 from three-point distance.  For her career, Pierce ranks fifth all-time at MSSU with 60 career blocked shots.

Wood has also scored in double-figures this season at 10.8 ppg and has recorded a team-high 103 assists.  Wood has stepped up her play for the MIAA, averaging 12.2 ppg and hitting 41.6 percent (32-of-77) of her three-point attempts in conference games. 

Pierce and Wood have been key components of an MSSU squad that is currently No. 6 in the latest South Central Regional rankings.  The Lions (18-9, 9-9 MIAA) are attempting to qualify for the NCAA Postseason Tournament for the first time since 1996.

Next up for the Lions is a matchup with Northwest Missouri State for the second straight season at the MIAA Tournament on Thursday (Mar. 6).  Tip-off is approximately 2:15 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium. The Lions are the No. 4 seed and Northwest is seeded fifth.
