Lions add junior college guard to list of recruits

Joplin, Mo. - Missouri Southern women's basketball head coach Maryann Mitts has announced the signing of Jasmine Lovejoy to a national letter of intent to attend Southern and play basketball beginning in the 2009-10 season.

Lovejoy joins three other junior college transfers that signed with the Lions last week and three incoming freshman that signed with Southern in the early period last semester.

Lovejoy is a 5-8 shooting guard out of Northeast (Nebraska) Community College where she played for coach Matt Svehla. She was a third team All-America selection this year after scoring 16.3 points per game, 2.7 assists, 2.9 steals and shooting 48 percent from the field. She was an All-Conference and All-Region selection, as well.

A native of Springfield, Mass., Lovejoy played at Central High School where she was an All-State selection and a 1,000 point scorer. She helped lead her team to a state championship. Lovejoy plans on majoring in criminal justice at Southern and is the daughter of Jackie Jordan.

Mitts expects possibly one more signing before the end of the period.
