Lions add Division I transfer for upcoming season

Joplin, Mo. - Missouri Southern head coach Maryann Mitts has announced that San Jose State transfer Myosha Barnes will be joining the Lions' basketball squad for the upcoming 2008 season.

Barnes is a 5-6 senior guard from Milwaukee, Wis. that played three seasons for the Division I program San Jose State Spartans.  Barnes averaged 6.3 points per game for the Spartans during her three years.  Her most productive season at SJSU was as a sophomore, when she scored 8.4 points a game and pulled down 3.4 rebounds in 20 starts.

She averaged 13.1 ppg at Harold S. Vincent high school while being a four-time all-state and all-area honoree.  Barnes was also named the City Conference Co-Player of the year and was a first-team All-City Conference Gold Division selection.  Barnes also competed in softball, volleyball and ran track and cross country.

"When we lost Robin Kantin last season to an injury, it was apparent that we needed a player that could penetrate and finish at the basket and Myosha will fill that void this year," said Mitts.  "It's enticing anytime you have the opportunity to bring in a combo guard and her Division I experience will be valuable."  "We are going with a little different look this season and we are very excited about Myosha's versatility."
