Lions Sign Jamilia Bonner To National Letter Of Intent

Joplin, Mo. - Missouri Southern women's basketball coach Maryann Mitts has announced the signing of Jamilia Bonner to a national letter of intent to attend Missouri Southern and play basketball for the Lions beginning in the fall of 2007.

Bonner is a 5'11 shooting guard who comes to Southern after a year at Okaloosa Walton College in Niceville, Florida and will have three years of eligibility remaining. She averaged 7.6 points and 3.7 rebounds in her only year at OWC and was perused by the likes of Texas A&M, Florida, Virginia and Miami.

Listed as the ninth best shooting guard in the junior college ranks by girlsbasketballreport.com, Bonner is a native of Mobile, Alabama where she played at Williamson High School. A highly decorated high school athlete, Bonner was named to the Alabama Sports Festival Team her junior and senior years, as well as being named to the Mobile Register's Sweet 16 first team.

She was the Mobile Player of the Year both her junior and senior years and was named all-county and all region in both seasons. At Williamson, Bonner averaged over 18 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and three assists per game.

Mitts thinks Jamilia could have the ability to be a tremendous addition to the Lions.

"She is a serious talent," Mitts said. "One of the bright spots is her sophomore eligibility status. She has three years left and we really wanted to bring in another versatile guard. She is very athletic and can fit that mold extremely well."
