Gallagher earns second-team all-region
Senior led MSSU volleyball team in 2004
Missouri Southern State University senior Jackie Gallagher (Glendale,
Ariz./Univ. of Idaho) was named to the Daktronics All-South
Central Region Volleyball Team announced recently.
Gallagher was a second-team selection on
the all-region squad as selected by the region’s sports
information directors.
Gallagher, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter,
finished as Missouri Southern’s career leader with 4.49
kills per game, charting 894 kills in her two-year career with
the Lions.
In 2004, Gallagher led the Lions and
finished second in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics
Association with 5.15 points per game and 4.55 kills per game,
and she tied for ninth in the league with 0.33 service aces a
game. She had double-figure kills in 29 of 32 matches this
season, including 19 straight to end the year.
Gallagher’s 551 kills this season
ranks third on the MSSU single-season list. She also had 20 or
more kills in 11 matches this season, and scored double-figure
points in 29 matches.
A two-time second-team All-MIAA selection,
she finishes her career with 609 digs, 40 assists, 65 service
aces and 76 total blocks (10 solo).
Members of the first team advance to the
ballot for recognition on the Daktronics Division II
All-America Volleyball Team. This is the fifth year sports
information directors have selected the team and it’s the
only All-America volleyball team selected by a vote of SIDs.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged
world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display
systems for virtually every sport at every level.
Missouri Southern finished the 2004 season,
its first under new head coach Chris Willis, with a 14-18
record, including 6-10 in the MIAA for sixth place, and made
its second straight appearance in the conference’s
postseason tournament.
